Pond hockey tournament in Hailey

The Blaine County Recreation District is hosting a four-on-four pond hockey tournament at Hailey Ice, located at Roberta McKercher Park, on Sunday, Jan. 20, starting at 10 a.m.

Registration for the no-goalies tournament is $40 per team, which includes at least two games, a barbecue, drinks and prizes. The registration deadline is Friday, Jan. 18.

The three divisions are mixed, 17 and under, and 18 and over. For more information, contact the district at 788-2117.

Scholarship deadline approaches

The Idaho State Board of Education announced Wednesday that the deadline for high school seniors to apply online for scholarships is Jan. 15.

The board manages several different scholarships. Those that require an application through the board's Web site include Robert R. Lee Promise A, Robert C. Byrd Honors, Tschudy Family, Freedom, Public Safety Officer and Opportunity.

The board reported that about $9 million in scholarships are awarded each year to help Idaho students.

Hospice group for kids to start

The Hospice and Palliative Care of the Wood River Valley will launch a new program for kids beginning Jan. 24 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the hospice office, at 507 First Ave. N. in Ketchum.

The group, temporarily known as Joker's Wild, is open to anyone ages 6 to 16 who has a family member being treated for cancer.

The program was determined to be needed on the recommendation of a group that included the YMCA, Cancer Consultants, St. Luke's Center for Community Health, Expedition Inspiration and the hospice.
