Prairie Creek Snowmaker
on tap for Saturday

The Elephant's Perch of Ketchum will stage its annual Prairie Creek Snowmaker Classic race event Saturday, Jan. 5 on the Prairie Creek trail system 16 miles north of Ketchum. Registration takes place from 9-10:30 a.m. at the site with racing on 2 kilometer, 7.5k and 15 courses getting underway at 11 a.m. For more details call the Perch 726-3497. The Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation is the co-sponsor.

Tele Series All-Terrain race
on Baldy Saturday

The 28th season of the Sun Valley Telemark Series debuts Saturday, Jan. 5 with the annual All-Terrain race on Baldy's Cozy run. The Sun Valley Telemark Series calls itself the longest continuously run telemark series in the country.

Registration is Saturday from 9-10 a.m. at Warm Springs Lodge (entry $20) with racing on Cozy at 10:30 a.m. Racers will gather for a party afterwards. Here are the other scheduled races for 2008:

Saturday, Feb. 2: Idaho's Original Bob Marley All-Terrain, Big Air and Powder 8s race. Saturday, Feb. 23: The James Brown Uptown-Git Down Hiking Race at Soldier Mountain north of Fairfield. Sunday, March 2: The Dollar Mountain giant slalom. And Saturday, April 5: The Hawaiian Nationals, Dual GS, Tandem Telemark Challenge, Tele Parade and Rail Jam on Baldy.

Soldier Mountain open for skiing

Soldier Mountain Ski Area north of Fairfield opened for the 2007-08 season Saturday, Dec. 22. Lift ticket prices are the same as the past four seasons. They are $30 for adults and $20 youth aged 7-17. Children six-and-under and seniors 70-and-older can ski free.

Soldier Mountain is open daily through Sunday, Jan. 6. After that Soldier Mountain resumes its regular schedule of 9 a.m.--4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Soldier Mountain will also be open for Martin Luther King Day in January and Presidents' Day in February.

Club volleyball meeting Jan. 10

The Wood River Volleyball Club is holding a parent information and registration session Thursday, Jan. 10 in the Wood River High School Distance Learning Center, Hailey. Girls in grades 5-8 gather from 6-7 p.m. and those in grades 9-12 meet from 7-8 p.m. Call club director Kristi Vandenberg at 720-0473 with any questions.

Youth basketball sign-ups

Registrations for 2008 BCRD Youth Basketball are now being accepted at the Blaine County Recreation District Office located at The Community Campus in Hailey.

The winter program is open to all boys and girls in grades kindergarten through seventh grade. The kids should be interested in learning the basics of basketball through practices, playing games, and having fun.

For convenience, two evening registrations will be held Tuesday, Jan. 8 from 6-7 p.m. at Hemingway Elementary School in Ketchum, and Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 6-7:30 p.m. at The Community Campus in Hailey. For more details call 788-2117.
