Blaine County Recreation District is offering a selection of group skate ski lessons beginning in January at Quigley Nordic east of Hailey.
Skiers choose from beginner, beyond basics, or advanced lessons. The beginner class is geared to the first-time or very inexperienced skier who wants to learn skating technique.
The first session will meet Fridays at Quigley Nordic from noon to 1 p.m. from Jan. 11-25.
Intermediate level or "beyond basics" skate skiers will benefit from classes focused on skating technique, efficiency, and speed. Skiers will learn to finesse V-2, V-1, and V-2 alternate techniques.
This intermediate group will meet Mondays from noon to 1 p.m. from Jan. 7-21.
Advanced level skaters will focus on technique improvement but will be geared towards training for racing and increased fitness. The advanced session meets Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. from Jan. 9-23. Two more sessions of three classes each will follow the first session, allowing skiers to move up in levels.
A North Valley Trail or Quigley pass is required and participants must provide their own ski gear.
Blaine County Recreation District Nordic ski instructors include EJ Harpham, Katherine Sheldon, and Pam Street. Private lessons are also available for classic or skate technique. Call 788-2117 for details.
