Joyce Koppes

Joyce Gutke Forbes Koppes, 71, died Nov. 23, 2007, unexpectedly from pneumonia.

Joyce loved animals and children and had a loving heart.

She was born Feb. 23, 1936, and raised in Holliday, Utah. She lived in Ketchum for 30 years after arriving in the late 1950s. She worked as a receptionist in the offices of Dr. Saviers and Dr. Moritz. She then worked for many years as a cashier for Vickie Graves in the Sun Valley Drug Store. Following that, she also worked as a cashier at Warm Springs.

Joyce is remembered most for her happy nature; she always had a good story to tell. She was one of the people who helped organize the first Old Timers picnic, which has over the years become a delight for former employees of Sun Valley. She talked so often of all the friends she knew and loved in Ketchum.

In later years, she relocated to Portland, Ore. There she worked for Sister of Providence in a fitness center. She also volunteered for Head Start and enjoyed reading to the children.

Joyce married and divorced James Forbes and John Koppes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Lucille Gutke; brother Darrell; son John Koppes; and sister-in-law Christine J. Gutke. She is survived by brother Harvey Gutke; and nephews Darrell and Michael Gutke.

Joyce wished to be cremated and her ashes scattered.
