YMCA pool schedule irks some members

Swim team hours could change in summer

Some members of the newly opened Wood River Community YMCA in Ketchum aren't entirely happy.

Jennifer Harper, director of aquatics for the YMCA, said she has fielded a few complaints regarding the pool's schedule—specifically that the facility is used exclusively by the YMCA swim team from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays.

Since that is around the time most people get off work, it's no surprise that it's when some members would also want to use the pool.

"The pool opens at 6 in the morning and people can swim until 8:30 at night," Harper said. "That means there's 12 hours when the swim team is not using the pool."

Harper said the team, which averages about 40 members per session, holds those hours so students can participate after school. She said the schedule could change during the summer season.

In addition, the kids' pool, known as the Leisure Pool, remains open to the public during swim team practice. That includes the slide, which is open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

During winter vacation, which lasts until Jan. 6, 2008, the slide is open from 1 p.m.

However, pool hours have been shortened on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, lasting from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on New Year's Day.
