Sun Valley P&Z nixes cell tower

Panel gives green light to Gun Club plan

A proposed 20-foot pole for cellular telephone transmissions was rejected Friday, Nov. 30, by the Sun Valley Planning and Zoning Commission, which will recommend final denial by the City Council.

The pole would've been installed next to the existing Sage Creek booster pump building near the underground reservoir in the vicinity of the Crown Creek subdivision.

Members of the commission expressed a desire for more cell service, but said the visual impact of the pole gave them pause.

The proponent for the pole, which would have two 2-feet-by-4-feet panels on top, was Edge Wireless. A spokesman for the company could not be immediately contacted for comment on whether the firm would appeal the P&Z decision to the full council, or return with a modified plan.

In another action, Sun Valley Co.'s plans for developing the former Gun Club property on Trail Creek Road virtually sailed through on its third hearing with a recommendation for approval by the City Council.

An estimated 350 acres are involved in development of a 9-hole golf course, 30 single-family residential home sites, room for some 250 condos and a new golf pro shop and clubhouse.

The resort has made no announcement on when it would start construction if it receives final approval from the city.
