They?ll be skiing at Galena Lodge

For Thanksgiving

It was snowing hard at Galena Lodge on Monday, which was a good sign that the resort 23 miles north of Ketchum will have more skiing and snowshoeing trails open over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, operator Don Shepler said.

Galena Lodge opened for the 2007-08 winter season on Saturday, Nov. 17 but didn't charge trail fees for its customers because of the limited trail options, up to 12 kilometers.

Shepler said three or four more inches of snow added to the firm base would increase the acreage, and six to eight inches in the north country would substantially add to the trails available for the holiday.

Look to the skies for the answer but, remember, they always get more snow up north.

Contact the lodge at 726-4010 for an updated report. Shepler said to expect early-season conditions. He added skiers and snowshoers should leave their dogs at home until the base becomes more established.

As always, check the grooming hotline at 578-9754 or visit bcrd.org and galenalodge.com. The lodge is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during season.
