Sawtooth Conference picks All-Leaguers

Eight-man gridiron stars for 2007


Sawtooth Conference eight-man football champion and State 1A Division 2 runner-up Carey School (10-2) and Camas County of Fairfield put players on the 2007 All-League team selected by coaches Monday.

Filling 62 All-League slots were student/athletes from Carey, Camas County, Rockland, Dietrich, Richfield, North Gem of Bancroft, Mackay and Murtaugh.

The first-team picks for Carey were seniors D.J. Simpson (safety) and Blake Whitby (running back and linebacker), junior Heith Adamson (defensive line) and sophomore Gonzalo Zarate (defensive end).

Camas County's first-teamers were seniors J.D. Jewett (offensive center, defensive line) and senior Ben McLam (running back and punter).

Second-teamers from Carey were senior Tyler Parke (center), senior Scott Ellsworth (receiver), Simpson (quarterback), Zarate (placekicker) and senior Kade Peterson (defensive end). Camas' All-League second-teamer was McLam (safety).

Honorable mention picks included sophomores Brad Peck (offensive guard) and Trevor Peck (linebacker) of Carey, along with junior Cory Brand (offensive guard) and senior Camron Lee (linebacker) of Camas County.

"Coach of the Year" was Dietrich's Ed Simons Jr. He and his assistants Wayne Dill, Jerry Sabala and Jerry Heimerdinger were proud of their boys who claimed the state third-place trophy for the first time in school history.

Here are All-League picks:

Offense

Center—First team: J.D. Jewett (Camas County). Second team: Tyler Parke (Carey). Honorable mention: Brandon Robinson (Rockland), G.W. Bailey (Dietrich) and Matt Lezamiz (Richfield).

Offensive guard—First team: Luke Hubert (Dietrich) and Jacob McHargue (Rockland). Second team: Shawn Banks (North Gem) and D.J. Anderson (Richfield). Honorable mention: Cory Brand (Camas County) and Brad Peck (Carey).

Receiver—First team: Jared Stoddard (Dietrich) and Jesus Cabral (Murtaugh). Second team: Scott Ellsworth (Carey) and Braiden Buckner (Richfield). Honorable mention: Scott Smyer (Mackay).

Running backs—First team: Blake Whitby (Carey) and Ben McLam (Camas County). Second team: Luke Wood (Richfield) and Houston Crossley (North Gem). Honorable mention: Jake Spillet (Rockland), Jake Gillish (Mackay) and Tyrell Porter (Dietrich).

Quarterback—First team: Anthony Pitman (Dietrich). Second team: D.J. Simpson (Carey). Honorable mention: Tim Jones (Rockland), Kole Krosch (Mackay) and Tel Clark (Richfield).

Punter—First team: Ben McLam (Camas County). Second team: Tim Jones (Rockland). Honorable mention: Joel Martinez (Murtaugh).

Defense

Defensive line—First team: Heith Adamson (Carey) and J.D. Jewett (Camas County). Second team: Jacob McHargue (Rockland) and Jake Gillish (Mackay). Honorable mention: Luke Hubert (Dietrich) and Shawn Banks (North Gem).

Defensive end—First team: Gonzalo Zarate (Carey) and Chuck Highley (Mackay). Second team: Kade Peterson (Carey) and Braiden Buckner (Richfield). Honorable mention: Jason Gailey (Murtaugh), G.W. Bailey and Kolton Hubert (Dietrich), and Tel Clark (Richfield).

Safety—First team: D.J. Simpson (Carey) and Anthony Pitman (Dietrich). Second team: Ben McLam (Camas County) and Tim Jones (Rockland). Honorable mention: Michael Lezamiz (Richfield) and Jaren Stoddard (Dietrich).

Linebackers—First team: Blake Whitby (Carey) and Tyrell Porter (Dietrich). Second team: Logan Ballard (Dietrich) and Houston Crossley (North Gem). Honorable mention: Trevor Peck (Carey), Matt Lezamiz (Richfield), Carson Munk (Rockland) and Camron Lee (Camas County).

Placekicker—First team: Jake Spillet (Rockland). Second team: Gonzalo Zarate (Carey). Honorable mention: Luke Wood (Richfield).
