Having worked on several campaigns over the years, I feel compelled to comment on this last election. I was involved with a candidate who is genuine, committed and fun. We had a great time and although she didn't make it this time, rest assured there is more to come. Something I found interesting as we were campaigning is the very real frustration and anger by residents who work and own businesses in town, but are not allowed to vote.
This is an issue that my candidate decided would be addressed should she become a council member. Rightly so. It is so unfair that people who work, own a business and spend a majority of their time in Ketchum are not allowed to vote. Many of them live in the county and if they can validate their business or their employment in town why shouldn't they be able to vote in that town? Even residents within the area of impact should be allowed to vote. This could also apply to Hailey and Bellevue.
I hope the governing bodies of our towns will consider this truly unjust situation. We all feel the impact of elections and decisions that are made by city officials.
Best wishes to the new council and I hope they will give some thought to what is a concern for many of us in the county.
