Allow predators to live

I agree with Bill Ward's statement in his guest opinion that it would be a shame to close certain areas for winter use on BLM lands in order to protect the wildlife. As do many other people in this valley, I enjoy snowshoeing and backcountry skiing. However, I'm willing to go somewhere else to allow animals the space they need.

As Mr. Ward, I love and appreciate the surroundings and the wildlife. However, I'm sorry he finds it necessary to kill coyotes and mountain lions so that he has more deer to kill in the fall. The mountains are the backyard for all of us, and I would like to be able to see coyotes, mountain lions, bears and wolves, as well as deer and elk, living in their natural surroundings. By depriving me and others of that opportunity, Mr. Ward is acting worse than the BLM is in closing areas to public use.

Mr. Ward said he never saw anyone harassing wildlife in the winter. Doesn't killing them count as harassment? Or do coyotes and cougars not count as wildlife?

Coyotes, cougars and bears hunt only to survive. We should allow them to do so, and shoot only individual animals that become a danger or problem to humans. However, when animals come into human areas, it should be easy for us to take measures to avoid those problems.

All wildlife have the right to live and all of us have the right to see them alive.
