Police investigate streetlight vandalism

The Sun Valley Police Department is investigating vandalism to streetlights in the city that occurred sometime Saturday night.

Police Chief Cameron Daggett said 11 streetlights were damaged along a path that winds through the Atelier and Villager condominiums off Old Dollar Road. The damage was reported on Sunday.

Light fixtures were broken out and some of the metal poles were damaged on the streetlights, which stand only about 6 feet off the ground.

A damage estimate was still being compiled on Tuesday.

The culprit or culprits apparently strolled down the path smashing the light fixtures as they came to them.

Daggett said a motive for the vandalism was unclear but "with this many of them, I think it's likely a young-and-rowdy issue."
