Hailey police investigate alleged thefts

The Hailey Police Department investigated two alleged employee theft cases last week and two suspects were arrested.

Police Chief Jeff Gunter said Christine Marie Maloney, a 44-year-old Carey woman, was arrested at her home Friday for allegedly misappropriating money from her employer, AmeriTitle in Hailey.

Gunter said police initiated the investigation earlier Friday when AmeriTitle reported that about $200,000 was missing from its accounts. He said accounting showed that the money started disappearing in May 2006.

He said Maloney is currently facing felony grand theft charges and is suspected of stealing the entire amount reported missing.

Another arrest was made earlier in the week after TJ's Electronics complained on Monday, Nov. 5, that an employee had stolen and was illegally using a company credit card.

Gunter said Damian Hugo Parades, a 23-year-old Hailey man, was arrested the following day and faces charges of fraudulent use of a credit card. He said the case is still under investigation and that Parades could face a felony charge if the amount allegedly misappropriated exceeds $1,000.

"We're still waiting for the final figure," Gunter said.

He said records show the stolen card was used in Hailey and Idaho Falls and at other locations in Utah and Nevada.
