Stolen groceries dumped on Main Street

Two Hailey men were arrested last week after they allegedly stole a shopping cart full of groceries from Albertson's Food and Drug in Hailey, fled with the cart from a pursuing store employee and dumped the cart in the middle of Main Street.

Facing charges of petit theft are Shane M. Roy, 20, and Seth Moldenhauer, 18.

Hailey Police Chief Jeff Gunter said the incident started at about 6:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, when the pair allegedly left Albertson's without paying for a shopping cart filled with groceries. A store employee saw them and gave chase.

"They were being chased by an employee and somehow the cart got dumped in the street and they left it there," the police chief said.

Gunter said the suspects then fled to the Valley View Apartments. But the store employee followed them there. Police were contacted and the suspects were questioned, identified by store employees and arrested, he said.

Gunter said the shopping cart was mainly filled with food items, valued at $188.46.
