A golf-oriented publicity firm will help Sun Valley Co. spread the word about its new nine-hole golf course, clubhouse and symphony pavilion via news releases sent to hundreds of media.

Jack Sibbach, Sun Valley Co. marketing director, said it has signed an initial one-year contract with Buffalo Communications, based in Vienna, Va. Calling itself a "golf lifestyle specialty firm," the company is run by several former golfing magazine writers and is owned by Billy Casper Golf, which manages golf courses nationwide.

"They know the industry and they know who to talk to," Sibbach said. "They've got a history of helping golf resorts promote themselves."

Buffalo Communications' client list includes nearby resorts such as Tamarack and the Coeur d'Alene Casino Resort Hotel, as well as more exotic locales such as the island of Kauai and the Kingdom of Morocco Ministry of Tourism. Company PR specialist Rob Thomas says Buffalo Communications maintains more than 1,000 contacts with golf and resort media.

Thomas said Buffalo Communications will send out its first news release on Sun Valley's new amenities late this week. He said a "steady diet" of subsequent releases will provide travel and golfing writers with story ideas connected to them. He said the releases will also publicize Sun Valley's other resort amenities, including skiing and its ice-skating shows.

The new nine-hole course, which will bring Sun Valley's total to 27 holes, is under construction on the north side of Trail Creek Road and is scheduled to be ready for golfers by next July or August, depending on the spring growing season.

The new clubhouse and Nordic center, being built about half a mile up Trail Creek Road from the existing clubhouse, is planned to open concurrently with the new course.

The symphony pavilion will include a stage under an acoustic shell and shaded seating for 1,500 people. It is set to open next July, at the start of the 2008 symphony season.

Sibbach said Sun Valley Co. hopes to conduct two familiarization tours for travel industry professionals next summer.
