Ward, Gove are ?Players of the Year?

In Great Basin West volleyball


Wood River High School volleyball team co-captains Hannah Ward and Hannah Gove share a first name and, as of Monday night, they also share the honor of "Players of the Year" in the Great Basin West Conference for 2007.

Gove and Ward, Wolverine seniors, were selected as the top conference players during Monday night's meeting that also crowned Wood River coach Tim Richards and Burley coach Tiffany Green as the Great Basin "Co-Coaches of the Year."

Wood River junior Kaylee Baker made the All-League first team while senior Lauren Morgenthaler and junior Angela Coleman earned second-team honors. Junior Kylie Anderson made honorable mention on the 16-player squad.

Earning the school's 20th district championship and 21st state tournament berth this fall, Wood River (20-13-2 overall) posted its eighth consecutive 20-win campaign and won the State 4A volleyball tournament Sportsmanship Trophy.

The team banquet is tonight, Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the high school commons, Hailey.

First team: Kaylee Baker (WR junior); Jordan Burnham and Katherine Twitchell (Jerome seniors); Katelin Robins and Alex Haynie (Burley seniors); and Kendra Bailey (Minico sophomore).

Second team: Lauren Morgenthaler and Angela Coleman (WR senior, junior); Ryann Cooper and Shaylyn Garn (Burley seniors); Jordan Hollifield (Jerome junior); and Breonna Phillips (Minico sophomore).

Honorable mention: Kylie Anderson (WR junior); Hailey Long (Jerome junior); Kalli Mackay (Minico senior); and Molly Mills (Burley junior).
