Vote for Thorson

I am writing this letter in support of the re-election of Jon Thorson for mayor of Sun Valley. I have been privileged to know Jon as a member of St. Thomas Church, as my "across the street" neighbor, and for the past four years, as mayor. In all those capacities, I have seen him as a man of great integrity, intelligence, willingness to serve, and extraordinary energy and hard work.

When I worked in corporate America, I found that the best leaders were those who could make a decision, and were also willing to change their minds. Many politicians won't budge on their positions. My experience of Jon is that he is totally willing to listen to voters, admit when he is wrong, and change his position accordingly. (In fact that is just what he did about the complex issue of recycling.) This is a rare quality in politicians and it demonstrates strong character and leadership.

During the past four years, the city of Sun Valley has taken the lead on issues such as housing, green building, and valley-wide transportation. Progress on these must continue if we are to preserve our unique quality of life and not become a ghost town. Also critical to our economy and life style is the implementation of the resort's 50-year plan, including the Gun Club Nine, the Symphony Pavilion and, hopefully, a new hotel.
