A few years ago when I was a barista at Java in Hailey, a co-worker of mine had a meltdown and walked out of the store, leaving me alone with a line of customers out the door, and no one was available for back-up. In tears, I began waiting on the customers early in the morning, trying to get the drinks and food out fast so that they could get to work.
As Erin Dunn approached the counter, instead of ordering his usual drink, he looked at me and asked, "Are you OK?" I replied with a "Yes, I am fine." But my teary eyes showed him differently. So without another word, he threw off his jacket, came behind the counter and started making the drinks. He put off his day to help out a stranger. Not a lot of people could/would do this for someone they don't know. He stayed and made drinks until the line was gone.
I thanked him with a cup of Joe on me, and he was on his way without another word.
This is a very selfless and unforgettable thing to do for someone. He is already a "servant" to the community, and in my opinion, he has the skills and personality to help run it.
I never truly got to thank him for this selfless act, and always wanted to. I thought this was a great time to do it. So, thank you Erin, you have my vote.
