Chain reaction leads to citation

A Ketchum man was cited for allegedly following too closely after a three-vehicle chain reaction crash on state Highway 75 just north of Hailey last Thursday afternoon.

The mishap occurred just before 5 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 75 and Aspen Lakes Drive. The accident temporarily blocked rush-hour traffic.

One woman was transported with back and knee injuries to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center by a Wood River Fire and Rescue ambulance. The Blaine County Sheriff's Office identified the woman as Jennifer Hannah, no age or address available. A sheriff's office report said the woman was treated and released.

Sheriff's Lt. Ron Taylor said the chain reaction occurred when a southbound 1994 red Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Jose Gallardo, 38, Ketchum, crashed into the rear of a black 2002 Audi driven by Phoebe Walsh, 27, of Ketchum. The Walsh vehicle in turn crashed into a green 1995 Chevrolet pickup driven by Jack Hegvahl, 53, of Ketchum.

The sheriff's report said the injured woman was a passenger in the Hegvahl vehicle. The report further said that Gallardo was issued the citation.
