Fairfield woman injured in rollover

An 18-year-old Fairfield woman was injured in a one-vehicle rollover early Saturday morning on U.S. Highway 20 east of Fairfield.

The Blaine County Sheriff's Office identified the woman as Carroll Stewart, who suffered a broken hand and cuts and bruises in the crash. She was transported by Wood River Fire and Rescue ambulance to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center.

A sheriff's office report said the accident occurred at about 6:40 a.m. six miles east of the boundary between Blaine and Camas counties.

Sheriff's Lt. Ron Taylor said Stewart was driving a gray 2007 Chevrolet Silverado when she lost control of the vehicle, which slid into a concrete barrier and then rolled some 150 yards down an embankment.

"She fell asleep is what happened," Taylor said.

He said the vehicle was a total loss and the fact that Stewart was wearing a seatbelt saved her from more serious injury.

No citation was issued.
