Sun Valley police investigate lumber theft

Sun Valley police are investigating the theft of $3,000 worth of lumber that was taken from a construction site in the Weyyakin area near the intersection of state Highway 75 and Elkhorn Road.

Police Chief Cameron Daggett said Monday that the theft was discovered and reported Wednesday, Oct. 10, but it's not certain when the material was stolen.

The stolen material consisted of 42 floor joists, each of them 18 feet long.

Daggett said the joists were stored under a tarp and "on Wednesday they uncovered it and half of them were gone."

"Somebody had to come in with a flatbed trailer and load these up," he said. "You can't haul them in a pickup."

The joists were stolen from the north end of the Weyyakin area.

Daggett said there are no suspects and the investigation is somewhat stymied because none of the neighbors have reported seeing anything suspicious in the area.

"So we're looking for help from the public," he said.

Anyone with information can contact the Sun Valley Police Department at 622-5345.
