A former hedge fund manager who worked from the Wood River Valley is on his way to prison.
U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff, on Monday, Oct. 15, sentenced John H. Whittier, 41, to three years in prison for his role in managing two funds that collapsed and, according to the government, resulted in a loss to investors of at least $88 million.
The two funds—Wood River Partners L.P. and Wood River Partners Offshore Ltd.—were managed under Whittier's Wood River Capital Management LLC umbrella.
Wood River Capital Management once maintained an office in central Ketchum.
Whittier earlier this year had pleaded guilty to securities fraud and other charges.
