The Hailey Police Department is investigating a pair of hit-and-run accidents that occurred in the city on Sunday.

In the first incident, a 39-year-old Hailey resident was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, driving without a valid driver's license and leaving the scene of an accident. Eduardo Pirir-Cubule is also accused of backing his 1988 Acura Legend into a vacant house in the Woodside area of Hailey.

Police said the incident started shortly after 5 p.m. when officers were called to a "verbal dispute" at 3131 Glenbrook Drive. Pirir-Cubule, a man who police said was involved in the dispute, was gone when officers arrived. However, police reported, skid marks leading from the road and into the house at 3130 Mountain Ash were plainly evident, as was the damage to the house.

Investigating officer Sgt. Steve England said the driver was apparently in a hurry to leave, grabbed the wrong gear and backed up at a high rate of speed.

"He took out the whole siding and framing," said England, who estimated damage to the home at $10,000.

"I can't believe he got that much speed backing up," England said.

Police said witnesses identified Pirir-Cubule as the driver. He was arrested at his home on Woodside Boulevard about an hour later.

Hailey police investigated a second hit-and-run report at the intersection of state Highway 75 and Countryside Boulevard in southern Hailey at about 9:20 p.m.

Lt. Dave Stellers said a Ketchum woman, 43-year-old Carol Pintler, reported that she was northbound on the highway in a 2005 Subaru Legacy when a gray van turned in front of her, collided with her vehicle and "sped off down Countryside."

There were no injuries, and damage to the Pintler vehicle was reported as "moderate."

Stellers said Monday that police have located the suspect van but had not determined who was driving it.
