Bowman climbs to fifth in Jerome footrace

Ranked among Idaho's best 4A runners by the running Website, Wood River High School senior Pedro Morales and junior Julia Bowman showed why Thursday by finishing among the top seven at the Jerome Invitational 3.1-mile footrace at Forsythe Park in Jerome.

Morales, ranked fifth among 4A runners as of Sept. 28, placed seventh of 104 boys' varsity runners with a 5-kilometer time of 17 minutes and three seconds—29 seconds off the top Jerome Invitational pace of Burley's #2-ranked Taylor Bean (16:34).

Not far behind among the boys was #16-ranked Wolverine sophomore Chase Caulkins with a final time of 17:35, good for 12th place.

Meanwhile, #17-ranked Bowman had a terrific fifth-place finish out of 144 varsity girls at Jerome, in 20:51. It was 1:29 behind Twin Falls freshman winner Amanda Ward (19:22). And the Wood River girls finished fourth in the varsity team totals.

There were 248 varsity finishers Thursday plus 69 in the boys' junior varsity event and 177 in the shorter middle school boys and girls races.

Next, Wood River and Community School runners take part in the Twin Falls Invitational today, Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Canyon Springs Golf Course. Then it's on to the Gooding Invitational Tuesday, Oct. 9 at Gooding Golf Course.
