Behold ?The Golden Triangle of the Alps?

Hilloah Rohr presents Alps hiking and beauty

Hilloah Rohr stands in front of the Matterhorn. In Italy it's called Il Cervino and in France Le Cervin.

If you have ever dreamed of hiking the Alps, Hilloah Rohr will lead the way. Rohr has been an avid hiker and outdoor adventurer since she was 14 years old when she did her first technical climb up Crystal Mountain in the Cascade Mountains in Washington.

Rohr will present "The Golden Triangle of the Alps" at the Elephant's Perch in Ketchum on Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 7 to 8 p.m. Rohr's images and talk will focus upon on trips she has led through Switzerland, Italy and France.

"Over the years, I have led three different tours," Rohr said. "The tour can be varied according to the interests of the group. I keep my groups small. I don't like dozens of people hiking in a line on a trail."

Rohr has explored the Alps for years and learned to speak French because her trips would take her through small towns and villages in rural areas outside of the cities where no one speaks English.

"We hike all day and end up in a village or at a hut in the mountains with five-course dinners and wonderful regional wines and cheeses," Rohr said. "Everyone goes at their own pace, and they have maps. I make it cultural and active. I teach a little French-for-travelers class and how to fit in and not make a faux pas."

Rohr plans her tours for people to enjoy themselves and who love to hike mountains. She believes the Alps are much more manageable than the Himalayas, where altitude can be a problem.

"I encourage people to be fit," Rohr said. "I have taken cancer survivors, people with life threatening illnesses, and they use the trips as a goal to get healthy. I want these tours to be a life-changing event, and I love to facilitate that."
