Leonard Reagle


Memorial services for Leonard Reagle, 89 years of age, of Salmon, Idaho, who passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, in Boise, Idaho, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Salmon Elk's Lodge No. 1620 with ritualistic services. Burial will be in the Salmon Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Lloyd Shaw Post No. 67. A luncheon will follow at the Episcopal Paris Hall.

Leonard Clarence Reagle was born on Aug. 18, 1918, in Stevensville, Mont., to Charles and Ella Wood Reagle. They moved from Montana to Sandy Creek in Lemhi County, Idaho, on Oct. 17, 1928. He attended the Sandy Creek School until the eighth grade. He then stayed with his grandparents in Stevensville and went to High School. After high school, he worked on the ranch at Sandy Creek. Leonard joined the Army in 1940 and went overseas. He was wounded on the Belgian-German line in the Battle of the Bulge on Dec. 18, 1944 by an artillery shell. While recuperating he went to Agriculture College in London and in Edinburgh and Aberdeen, Scotland.

He met Christina Scott when she was waitressing in a café in Edinburgh in October 1945. They were married April 6, 1946, in Edinburgh. Leonard finished his tour in the army and came back to the ranch to wait for his wife.

They ran the ranch on Sandy Creek until they moved to the Carlson ranch in the Pahsimeroi Valley in 1950. They moved back to Sandy Creek in 1952. He ranched and hauled milk for Salmon Valley Cheese for 27 years. In 1994 they sold the ranch on Sandy Creek and moved to Salmon where they lived at the time of his death.

Leonard belonged to the Salmon Elk's Lodge No. 1620 for 44 years, was a member of the Eagles Lodge No. 2316 and belonged to the Disabled American Veterans Association.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Christina; two daughters, Lenore and Marlin Carlson of St. Anthony, Idaho, and Kathy and Jim McDonald of Salmon; two sons, John and Mary Reagle of Ketchum and Dan and Carol Reagle of Boise; two brothers, Bob and Marie Reagle of Nevada and Benny Reagle of Salmon; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Christina, son Bob, grandsons Troy Mechling, Skyler Davis and great-granddaughter Bailey Nielson.

Memorials are suggested to donor's favorite charity.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Jones & Casey Funeral Home of Salmon.
