Ketchum adopts budget

An almost $20 million dollar budget was adopted for the city of Ketchum on Monday, Sept. 10, although two departments, police and parks and recreation, are still being asked to tighten their financial belts.

The city council unanimously passed an ordinance approving a $19,359,452.00 budget for the 2007-2008 fiscal year. The fiscal year begins Oct. 1.

After discussions with Blaine County officials, city administrator Ron LeBlanc reported the city had received more funds than anticipated including $52,000 in state liquor reapportionment funds. "The citizens of Ketchum have done their share by helping balance our budget," LeBlanc quipped.

Head to Burning Ball

A celebration of the Castle Rock Fire's end and to support local firefighters called The Burning Ball will be held 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Light on the Mountains Spiritual Center. There will be dancing, dance lessons, complimentary wine and appetizers along with a silent auction and raffle. All firefighters are welcome free of charge. For others the entry fee will be $10.

Sun Valley named to top-10

Ski Magazine announced its highly anticipated "Top 50 Resort Guide" this month, and Sun Valley ski resort was named 10th overall for the second year in a row.

Rankings came from votes cast by Ski Magazine readers and were based on several factors including terrain, restaurants, amenities and overall experience.

Deer Valley, Utah, garnered the top spot for the third time in the survey's 20-year history. Vail, Colo., and Whistler/Blackcomb, B.C., rounded out the top three. Overall, Colorado resorts filled six of the top 10 spots, the most of any state.

WR Trails closed

The Wood River Trail will be closed in Front of the YMCA construction site from Monday, Sept. 10, through Friday, Sept. 14. A fenced detour walkway will be set-up next to the path in the grass to accommodate bicycle and foot-traffic.

The path may not be suitable for in-line skates, road bikes or nighttime travel. For additional information contact the Blaine County Recreation District at 788-2117.

Girls on the Run to begin

The non-profit organization Girls on the Run will begin Thursday, Sept. 27, through Saturday, Oct. 20, for the fall season. The Ketchum group will meet Monday and Wednesday, 2:45 to 4 p.m. at Atkinson Park in Ketchum. In Hailey, it will meet at the Community Campus, Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday from 3 to 4:15 p.m. School busing will be available from Bellevue, Woodside and Hailey elementary schools to The Community Campus in Hailey.

Rotarun concert fundraiser

The "Bringing Rotarun into the 21st century" fundraising campaign will continue with a concert taking place at Hailey's Hop Porter Park, Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, from 3pm to 8pm.

The show will feature the music of Tony Furtado and Johnny Neel. Concert tickets cost $20 for adults, $10 for children aged 12 to 18, and $5 for children aged 5 to 11.

Concert goers can bring a cooler to the concert full of food and their favorite beverages for a one time "Cooler" donation of $10. No size limits on coolers, so get the big cooler out and fill'er up.

Also, raffle tickets will be sold before and during the concert for $5 each or 5 tickets for $20. The raffle will be for all sorts of prizes ranging from gift certificates from local businesses and restaurants, to ski products from Scott USA and Smith Sports, to a 20/20 pass from Sun Valley Co, and more coming in everyday.
