School starts, and Homecoming arrives at WRHS

Busy week kickstarts 2007-08 year

Last week's school closures and event cancellations in the Blaine County School District means that Homecoming 2007 really packs a punch at Wood River High School.

Homecoming runs today through Friday, Sept. 5-7 at the Hailey school—part of the first week of classes for the 2007-08 school year in the district.

The week is highlighted by the non-conference varsity football game between Wood River and the Buhl Indians Friday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. at Phil Homer field in Hailey. It will be Wood River's first game of the season and Buhl's second.

Here's a look at what's coming up next week at WRHS:

Today, Wednesday, Sept. 5: WRHS boys' soccer vs. Jerome at 4:30 p.m. on the South Valley Sports Complex soccer field in Hailey.

WRHS freshman football game vs. Jerome at 5 p.m. on the Phil Homer gridiron.

Powderpuff football game and halftime show starting right after the freshman football game, about 7:30 p.m., on the main football field.

Thursday, Sept. 6: Annual Wood River Invitational cross country meet at 4 p.m. up Quigley Canyon east of Hailey.

Friday, Sept. 7: Alumni and community welcome with coffee and juice in the high school commons area, 8:30 a.m.

Assembly in the gym with students, staff, alumni and community supporters from 9-10 a.m.

"Wood River Rage" rally with food, fun and games from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Clubs and activities will sponsor the fun that will be held in the school yard, parking lot and commons area. Tickets will be sold on site to buy food and play games.

PTSA barbecue with good eats for all ages starts at 5 p.m. at the entrance to the football field. There will also be an alumni reception from 5-7 p.m. during the barbecue.

The Homecoming football game against Buhl begins at 7 p.m. The Homecoming royalty will be revealed during halftime of Friday's game.

Also, the 2007 Homecoming Dance for WRHS students and their dates has the theme "Venice Nights." It will begin after the game in the courtyard and continue until 12 midnight.
