Castle Rock Fire draws national media

Interest goes beyond fire itself

With the 42,433-acre Castle Rock Fire now the top-priority fire in the nation, it's no surprise that national media outlets are picking up on the story.

Mike King, a public information officer for the incident command team, said a reporter and photographer from The New York Times checked in at the public information office at River Run on Sunday, and that he's been fielding questions from local ABC, NBC and CBS affiliates.

In addition, National Public Radio, Fox News Radio, Reuters and CNN have run stories on the incident and picked up Associated Press stories for their Web sites.

As evidenced by an article in the Tuesday, Aug. 28, edition of The New York Times, interest has gone beyond the fire itself. A story about insurance giant AIG's Wildfire Protection Unit, special crews sent to protect the homes of high-end clients, was the focus of the coverage Tuesday.
