Labor Day auction has silver lining

Silver Auctions have cars for all

"It's business as usual," said Roger Frye, the general manager of the Silver Auctions. "We have an event that is immune to its surroundings."

From Friday, Aug. 31, through Sunday, Aug. 2, the Silver Auction car auction will take place under the tent at Sun Valley Resort. Car check-in will be from noon to 7 p.m. on Friday and the auction will take place from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

There will be more than 250 antique cars at the Sun Valley Resort including vintage classics, classics, sports both U.S. and European, exotic, luxury and muscle cars. The muscle cars have four categories including original, original restored, neo-classic and custom. Neo-classic muscle cars are classics with newer engine, suspension and driver train. Custom muscle cars will be full or partial.

Cars come from consignors from all over the West, and many auction customers are usually from the surrounding area of where the auctions are held, Frye said.

"We have a lot of regular customers that follow us from auction to auction," Frye said. "We do as many as 30 auctions a year."

Resort sales such as Sun Valley are Silver Auctions' most popular auctions because it's not just the asphalt parking lot. It's a beautiful area with appealing surroundings. Frye said his company's customers are usually men between 30 and 70 years old who own their own businesses.

"On the other side of the coin, the local person who works in a bank or a gas station and no longer has any use for his or her automobiles can bring cars and sell them too," Frye said.

Silver Auctions began in 1979 in Spokane, Wash., when owner and president Mitch Silver held the first auction at the Spokane County Fairgrounds in a 4-H barn. Today, Silver selectively produces a variety of small, large and enormous collector car auctions primarily in the western states.

"It is not only high-end cars. There are affordable driving cars too," Frye said. "It works for a real cross-section of people."
