Woman killed in Galena accident

Cattle truck collides with car

Ketchum Fire Department personnel work to extricate a victim of a cattle truck and car collision Thursday afternoon on state Highway 75 about three-quarters of a mile north of Galena Summit. An elderly woman was killed in the accident.

An elderly woman was killed Thursday afternoon in a car and truck collision on state Highway 75 near Galena Summit.

Blaine County Coroner Russell Mikel said the woman was in her mid-60s and died at the scene of the accident. A second victim was transported by a Ketchum Fire Department ambulance to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center south of Ketchum.

Names, ages and addresses of the victims were not available by press deadline Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 2 p.m. when a cattle truck and car collided on a sharp curve about three-quarters of a mile north of the top of Galena Summit, north of Ketchum. Some 30 head of cattle wandered around the scene of the accident as emergency personnel extricated and attended to the victims and debris was cleared from the highway.

The accident was still being investigated late Thursday afternoon.
