Peterson aces the White Knob Challenge

Hailey's Cody Peterson clocked the fastest time of 117 finishers in the 23rd version of the White Knob Challenge mountain bike race Aug. 4 near Mackay. The event was sponsored by Intermountain Orthopedics.

Peterson won the longest running mountain bike cross-country race in the Northwest with a final time of one hour, 17 minutes and 39 seconds—one second ahead of Tamarack Resort's Keith Hickerson (1.17:40).

Not far behind in third place among Pro Men was Ketchum's Matt Luhn (1.22:00).

The NORBA cross-country classic started from Mackay's Main Street and featured a nine-mile ascent with 2,300 feet in elevation gain. That was followed by a roller coaster descent to the valley floor.

Posting the fastest women's time was New England racer Joanna Peters (1.32:26).

Among local class winners in the Lost River Cycling biking event were Matt McNeal, Dave Bell, Carl Praeger, Dan Daigh, Austin Bourret, Scott Grill and Sandy Fahey.
