When we're born, we have a natural state of connection. Of course, over the years, we pile onto that state a massive amount of information, conflict, desires, activities and trauma.
"All these elements create these blocks to understanding of the bigger world," said Mariel Hemingway, who will host the spiritual guide Anamika at David and Bex Wilkinson's home south of Ketchum this weekend.
Anamika is renowned for her work in helping to transform a person's energy. She is author of "Into the Heart of the Beloved: A Romance with the Divine," and "The Old Soul's Guide: A Handbook for a Joyous Existence."
"She has a powerful energy," Hemingway said. "The energetic transformation of love moves through her. She's not woo-woo. She couldn't be more grounded and is extremely bright. Her consciousness is just super-advanced."
A yoga and meditation devotee, Hemingway admittedly has often been taken in by people with different ideas on healing. She said when she met Anamika she was "terrified and suspicious."
However, "I took a quantum leap. You have to experience it on your own," Hemingway said. "It's not a tangible thing."
Even Anamika admitted it's difficult to describe.
"The electromagnetic energy of the earth is changing rapidly. In 2012, as prophesized by the Mayans and others, there will be frequency change giving humanity the opportunity to shift consciousness and to relate to each other in interconnective, peaceful and harmonious ways," she said.
The year 2012 is considered the beginning of the fifth dimension in many spiritual communities.
"I'm here to assist the process," Anamika said. "The gift that I've been given is a transmission of energy, which is divine love. That comes through my body, and energy is transferred into the consciousness of other people, which helps them shift their consciousness from struggle to grace, from heartbreak to heartfulness."
Anamika graduated from Wellesley College in Massachusetts, and her master's degree in psychology came from non-traditional schools, she said. But it was during her experience afterward that she felt something was different.
"I was working with people and noticing that something different was happening other than psychotherapy," she said. "People were changing rapidly in a way that was impossible with traditional therapy."
She went to the Barbara Brennan School of Healing in New York for four years. "It helped me understand the use of energy."
Now based in Malibu, Calif., she works with people all over the world in retreats, classes gatherings and private consultations.
"I help people return to love," she said.
