Ed Pilkerton passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2007, in Boise.
He was born on May 8, 1935, in Emmet, Idaho. In 1957, he married the love of his life, Doris Newton, of Boise. They were blessed with 3 children: Mark, Linda and Paul.
Ed embarked upon a career in the hospitality industry, which was a journey of excitement and challenge for him. Starting as an elevator operator at the Hotel Boise, this hospitality adventure took him to management positions at the Sun Valley Resort, Bear Valley Resort, Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort, and the Westgate Hotel in San Diego. Ed also served as general manager of the Boise Centre on the Grove for 12 years. His hospitality career was exciting and rewarding, and he left a path of integrity, honor and achievement in his wake.
Ed was proud to volunteer for the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life, where he was awarded the prestigious Dr. Klotz Humanitarian Award in 2005. He volunteered at Mountain States Tumor Institute, was a board member of the Greater Boise Auditorium District, a board member of SKAL International Boise, as well as many other affiliations.
He loved skiing, especially at his favorite Sun Valley and Snowbird resorts, spending time in McCall, walking on the Greenbelt and the footbi1ls of Boise, and going to Boise's Saturday Farmers' Market. But more than anything, he loved spending time with Doris, their children, and grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Doris; his children Mark (Hazel) Pilkerton, Linda (Rich) Taxwood, and Paul (Tricia) Pilkerton; his four grandchildren Cassidy, Sarah, Sam and Alexa; his mother-in-law Virginia Newton; and his sisters-in-law Marjorie Young, Jeanne Shaw and Alice Askarnia, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Ed's name to MSTI, 100 E. Idaho, Boise, ID 83712. The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at MSTI and St. Luke's Regional Medical Center.
