George Snyder

George Snyder was born on April 1, 1916, in a two-story log cabin at Soldier, Idaho. His parents were Roscoe Cleveland Snyder and Mary (Hobson). He spent his summers on his father's cattle spread in Sheep Basin, north of Hill City, and attended school in Wendell, Gooding and Lewiston. George left Idaho when he was 19 and worked first as a builder and then as an architect and engineer.

He met Mona Donley in Pasadena, Calif., and they married in Panama in 1940. George and Mona had many hobbies, including traveling to trace their families' genealogies and collecting semi-precious stones, which George used in making sterling silver jewelry. He also loved teaching silver-working and was invited to teach chain-making at Camp Paradise in California.

George relished his return to the Wood River Valley two years ago and was delighted with his many new friends. He appreciated the loving care provided by his daughter, his many doctors and the Blaine County Senior Center.

He is survived by his brother, Jack Snyder, and his wife, Ada, of Caliente, Calif.; his son, Jon Snyder, of Altadena, Calif.; his daughter, Jorjan Sarich, of Hailey, Idaho; his grandson, Kevin Sarich, and his wife, Brandis, of Maui, Hawaii; and his granddaughter, Tamsin Sarich, of Seattle, Wash. George was preceded in death by his wife, Mona, and his brother, Glen.

George dearly wished to honor his granddaughter Tamsin's 25th year as a childhood cancer survivor and her upcoming climb of Mt. Aspiring, New Zealand, to raise money to support scholarships for Kids with Cancer to attend special summer camps. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in George's name to "Cancer Survivors on Mt. Aspiring" (501(c)3) and sent to P.O. Box 3875, Hailey, ID 83333. More information is available at www.aspiring2007.org.

George has requested that his ashes be scattered at Sheep Basin in the presence of his friends and family, which will take place this fall.

Arrangements were under the care of the Wood River Chapel, Hailey, Idaho.
