News Briefs

Idaho Power to trim trees

Hazardous trees along Warm Springs Road at the intersection with River Run Road in Ketchum will be trimmed by Idaho Power Co. Tuesday, Aug. 8. Work will start at 8 a.m. and continue until the work is finished later in the day, Idaho Power said in a news release. One lane of Warm Springs Road will be closed temporarily until the work is completed.

Recycling proves successful

The Environmental Resource Center, along with the Sun Valley Center for the Arts, teamed up to make the 26th annual Wine Auction & Picnic, July 19 to 21, a "green" event by using biodegradable plastic cups, forks, knives and trash bags—all made from cornstarch.

Recycling kiosks were put to use during events at River Run Lodge and Bigwood at Thunder Spring Golf Course, with help from Bald Mountain Excavation and Composting and Clear Creek Disposal. The result was the successful recycling of 80 percent of all waste generated at the event, eliminating nearly 4,500 gallons of trash headed to the regional landfill.

For more information on how to make events waste-free and how to purchase biodegradable plastics, contact the ERC at 726-4333 or www.ercsv.org.

Hearing on salary increase set

A public hearing on an ordinance that would double the mayor's salary and increase council members' salaries will take place during the Monday, Aug. 6, Ketchum City Council meeting.

Hailey park seeks donors

Anyone interested in stamping their name on Jimmy's Garden has one last shot to do so. Friday, Aug. 3, is the last day to purchase a paver for Hailey's newest pocket park.

The pavers cost $100 each and can have up to four full names engraved on them, or anything else people would like to say. Checks must be sent in by Friday, as the pavers take two months to be engraved and must be set in the ground before snowfall.

Checks should be sent to the Hailey Parks Foundation, Attn: Jimmy's Garden, P.O. Box 3107, Hailey, ID 83333.
