Legends for Youth baseball clinic is back

Event set for Aug 22 at Founders Field

Once again, organizers of the Danny Thompson Memorial golf tournament held in Sun Valley each August are planning to hold a special youth baseball clinic in Hailey.

The Legends for Youth baseball clinic for up to 100 Wood River Valley boys and girls, ages 6-17, will be presented by the Thompson golf tournament and the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.

It is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 22, from 4-6 p.m. at Founders Field in Hailey. Check-in begins at 3:15 p.m. Registration is limited to the first 100 boys and girls. It's free.

Former major leaguers due to teach the game's fundamentals at each station on the diamond include Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson, Bobby Grich, Paul Hartzell and others.

Bring your glove, cleats and the willingness to have a good time on the ball field with former major league ballplayers. For more details contact Buffy Brunker at 720-1998.

The Danny Thompson Memorial, named for a former Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers infielder, is in its 31st year as a charity and celebrity tournament raising money for leukemia and cancer research.

Last year's Thompson golf proceeds hit a record $760,000. Proceeds of over $8.6 million over 30 years have been distributed to the Mountain States Tumor Institute in Boise and University of Minnesota Cancer Research Center.
