Thanks for the squelch

My family would like to thank all of the firefighters who fought the fire in Indian Creek on July 24. Without question, they saved our house and all the contents.

The fire started very close to our house and we were down-wind. The response time was amazing, and the level of professionalism when they arrived was impressive. There was a point when the wind shifted, and it looked as though the fire might move away from the houses. A few minutes later it shifted again and the fire started moving rapidly with 20-foot-high flames directly at our house. The only thing between the fire and our house were the firefighters. The fire burned within 50 feet of our house. Firefighters stood their ground and were able to stop the fire from destroying our house and all of the contents.

I was a volunteer firefighter at one time and had the honor of working with many of the firefighters who worked this fire. It is hard and possibly dangerous work in difficult conditions. Despite the job description, I know the firefighters enjoy their work. It can be very exciting. I want to tell them it is a huge service to the community and to individual families. It is hard to put into words how grateful we are. Thanks again.
