Nurge takes age class at Teton Pass bike race


Ketchum cyclist Bill Nurge won first place in his age group class at a combination road and mountain bicycle race Monday at Teton Pass in Wyoming.

Nurge also placed fourth overall at the event.

According to race results from the Teton Pass Hill Climb, Nurge finished first in the M45 Men class in both the mountain and road competitions.

The road race involved a 4.7-mile run of 2284-feet vertical climb from Wilson, Wyo., to the top of Teton Pass. The mountain portion of the event took cyclists from the Trail Creek Nordic Center to the top of Mt. Elly, a distance of 5.6 miles and a vertical ascent of 5.6 miles.

Nurge also placed first in his class, Men Masters 45, at another race in Wyoming on June 16. The High Uintas Classic King and Queen of the Mountain competition involved a 5,200 feet climb over 30 miles distance in the Wasatch-Cache National Forest near Evanston.
