Why delay wind power?

I was considerably disappointed to read in the paper that the Blaine County Planning and Zoning Commission has passed on a moratorium on wind turbine applications for 180 days.

Yes, it is important to "do it right," but this means that people won't know what is required, much less be able to apply for a permit, for six months. The issues of energy independence and climate change are urgent, but there is no sense of urgency here.

The longer it takes for us to get alternative energy sources up and running, the more likely there will be pressure to build a coal fired generating plant in Idaho, something that most Idahoans are against.

I hope others will join with me in urging the County Commission to move consideration of the rules and regulations pertaining to wind turbines from the bottom of their priority list to the top. We need to get going on the development of this valuable source of alternative energy.
