Hailey police have been busy returning stolen property to its rightful owners following arrests last week of five juveniles allegedly involved in a major vehicle burglary ring.

"To date, 18 victims have got their property back," Hailey police Lt. Jeff Gunter said Monday.

Gunter said the Police Department was flooded with telephone calls following news media reports last week about the case.

The five juveniles, all boys between the ages 14 to 17, were arrested on Tuesday, July 17, after some of them were allegedly caught in the act of burglarizing a vehicle on south Second Street. Some $15,000 worth of stolen merchandise was recovered.

Gunter said the juveniles face felony charges of burglary, possession of burglary tools and possession of stolen property. They are accused of breaking into more than 25 vehicles and one house during a six-week period that started in early June.

Items recovered included laptop computers, iPODs, cell phones, CD collections, stereo equipment and binoculars.

Gunter said there have been no reports of vehicles burglarized in Hailey since the juveniles were arrested.
