Some 200 figure skaters have registered to compete this week in the 2007 Sun Valley Summer Figure Skate Championships that started Thursday at the Sun Valley outdoor ice skating rink.

The annual competition, hosted by the Sun Valley Figure Skating Club, is sanctioned by the U.S. Figure Skating Association and attracts competitive skaters from throughout the U.S.

SVFSC publicity chair Andrea Nelson said this year's competition will be one of the largest in Sun Valley's history.

Also in the works for SVFSC is its annual ice fashion fundraiser. Entitled "City of Dreams: A Fashion Extravaganza on Ice," the show is set for Aug.8 on the outdoor skating rink.

This year's summer figure skating championships kicked off Thursday with junior test level compulsory spins and moves and the intermediate-senior ladies short programs.

Set for today from 8 a.m. to 8:10 p.m. are senior test level free skating events and non-test interpretive performances.

Skating continues Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5:10 p.m. Senior test level artistic events and basic skills competitions will be held.

The competition concludes Sunday with showcase performances set for 10 a.m. through 3:50 p.m.

All events are free for spectators. For more information or specific test or performance times visit www.sunvalleyfsc.com.
