RECENT RESULTS

Kavanaugh Construction 11, Lefty's Bar & Grill 10

Kavanaugh is out to prove they are no longer anyone's doormat and they took a big step toward respectability with this win. Lefty's stepped out with the lead, however, breaking to a 7-2 advantage after three frames. Kavanaugh rolled the clover in the fourth scoring four, featuring a big two-run single off the bat of Kirsten Swenson. Trailing by two in the home fifth, Kavanaugh was swinging like Austin Powers. The team belted six hits with the biggest belt bouncing off the bat of Sean Harrington whose monster mash sent Lefty's fielders back to the fence. Yeah, baby. Lefty's showed spark in the visitor seventh, with Bryan Speth scoring off Courtney Boldt's ripper, but Kavanaugh hung tough to get the next two outs. They are going to have to play twice as tough today to hold their own against Color Haus, coming off their first loss. Kavanaugh (14 hits): Sean Harrington 2 HR, 5 RBI. Gary Anton 2 doubles, 1 run. Lenny Joseph 2 hits, 2 runs. Kirsten Swenson 2 hits, 1 run. Molly McCready double, 2 runs. Lefty's (19 hits): Courtney Boldt 4-for-4, 1 run. Bryan Speth 3 hits (triple/2 doubles), 3 runs. Anthony Anderson 3 hits, 1 run. Brenda Blackwell 3 hits, 1 run.

View Point 12, Color Haus 11

Nerves were stretched tighter than new guitar strings in the marquee matchup of the night. Bryan Burrell kick-started the game with a homerun to put the Haus on the scoreboard. View Point knotted it 1-1 in the second on a double and run by Rod Watson and preserved the tie by wiggling out of a bases-loaded jam. Bolstered by the flash of leather, the Pointers came out in the top of the fourth and reeled off four runs, including a 3-RBI homer by their own Hot Rod. Trailing 5-1, the Color Haus pulled within one on a 3-run jack by Josh Jacobson, which bounced off not one, but two roofs at Hemingway. View Point's big inning was the sixth. A leadoff triple by Jeff Sarchett set the table for a six-run burst featuring another homerun by Watson and a double by Geo Tognoni. The Haus matched Point's output, plating six runs of their own. Jacobson launched his second tater and Chris Benson tripled. Jeff Burrell, Jamie Uhirick, Shannon Webb and Twyla Bulcher also came through with run-scoring knocks. Trailing by two in the home seventh, Color Haus' Chris Hoshaw came around to pull his team within one, but View Point sent the next three batters down in order to ice the win. Something tells me we are going to see this matchup again. View Point (17 hits): Rod Watson 3 hits (2HR/triple), 3 runs. Wendy Hossman 3 hits, 1 run. Jeff Sarchett 2-for-2 (triple/double/walk), 3 runs. Sue Mulcahy 2 hits, 2 runs. Gio Tognoni 2 hits (double), 1 run. Color Haus (21 hits): Josh Jacobson 3 hits (2 HR), 2 runs. Kathy Seal 3 singles, 1 run. Twyla Bulcher 2 hits, 1 run. Sarah Benson 2 singles. Bryan Burrell HR/single.

High Altitude Fitness 16, Firefighters 15

Remember that "Wide World of Sports" intro which featured the lines "the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.?"This game was all that rolled into one. The Firefighters gripped it and ripped it putting 12 runs over home plate in the first three frames and held the lead until the fateful fifth. Wielded by High Altitude Fitness the hand of fate basically smacked the Firefighters upside the head. Fitness unleashed the beast, scoring 16 runs in the final three frames. Lee Ritzau smashed a grand slam in the fifth to get the party started. Down 16-13 in the home seventh, Firefighters Ed Binnie and Kelly Medina scored to make it a one-run game. With one out and the game-tying and game-winning runs on first and second, HAF nabbed a fly ball and a 4-3 ground out to earn their first win of the season. High Altitude (22 hits): Lee Ritzau 4 hits (grand slam), 2 runs. Ken Pierce 4 singles, 2 runs. Steve McCoy 4 hits (double), run. Lori Lathum 2 hits (double), 2 runs. Kathy Kerlick 2 hits, run. Firefighters (22 hits): Brian Tuohy 4 hits (HR/3 doubles), 4 runs, 4 RBI. Matt Christian 4 hits (triple/3 doubles), 2 runs. Kim Griener 2 hits, 2 runs. Karly Maratea 2 hits, 2 runs. Linda McMahon 2 singles.

Casino Club 27, Stafftopia/Group 6 9

Both teams broke hard. Visitor Casino opened with nine runs off eight hits in the first, including an inside-the-park-homerun by Craig Morse. Stafftopia answered with six runs from six hits with a triple by Benji Hill. The Casbah regained their momentum in the third, tacking on five runs with a triple by Jim Lee to go up 15-6.. No bar flies for the Casino in the sixth. They batted around and then some, scoring 12 runs off 10 hits, including a homerun and double by Matt Stacey and two singles by Gretchen Wagner who came up twice in the inning. Today's matchup against View Point will show us if the Casino has truly put their early-season slump behind them. If their hitting trend continues, they could earn the upset. Casino (28 hits): Matt Stacey 4-for-5 (HR/2 doubles), 3 runs. Kevin Booth 3 hits (double), 2 runs. Joe Reali 3 singles, 2 runs. Joyce Fogg 3 singles, 3 runs. Gretchen Wagner 3 hits, 2 runs. Kathy Baker 2-for-2, 2 runs. Stafftopia (12 hits): Chad Pringle 2 hits, 2 runs. Geoff Gardner 2 hits. Erin Resko 1 hit, 2 runs. Jonmarie Shaw single, run.
