I greatly appreciate the revitalizing changes made to Fourth Street. My one concern is the configuration of the bike path on the outside of parked cars. It looked all wrong to me the first time I saw it. Sure enough today, while towing my daughter in her trailer, I had a scary near miss. Someone in a parked car didn't look and opened their door straight in front of me. Fortunately I was going very slowly and was able to stop in time. Had I not been able to stop, my only options would have been to either slam into the car door or veer into traffic, neither of which sounds too enjoyable. What if the car had actually pulled out into my path or into my daughter's trailer? Is this really safe?
Hopefully one day the entire length of Fourth Street will be car-free¾a pedestrian- and bike-friendly corridor. For now, could someone please address what I see as an urgent safety issue?
