Trail Creek area trails reopen

Trails located in the Trail Creek Fire area northeast of Sun Valley have been reopened for use by the public, the trails coordinator for Ketchum Ranger District, Renee Catherine, announced Thursday.

"All roads and trails are open," she said.

Catherine did warn those who might be interested in recreating in the area to be cautious around the many burned snags that now exist in the 290-acre burned area. Last weekend's blaze may have loosened the root systems of many of the trees, which could fall if a gust of wind blows through the area, she said.

On July 26, Franklin interviews Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Haynes Johnson about his book "The Age of Anxiety: McCarthyism to Terrorism."

Clean up after Fido

In cooperation with the Ketchum-based Environmental Resource Center, the Sawtooth National Forest's Ketchum Ranger District will be staffing a number of educational booths at key trailheads located throughout the Wood River Valley this Saturday, June 30. The primary reason for the booths is to educate the public about the need to clean up dog waste when recreating on public land, the trails coordinator for Ketchum Ranger District, Renee Catherine, said Thursday.

Some of the trailheads where the booths will be located include the Adams Gulch Trailhead, the Trail Creek Trailhead and the Greenhorn Gulch Trailhead.

In addition to explaining to people the health hazards related to dog waste, those staffing the booths will be giving out and demonstrating how to properly use dog poop bags, Catherine said. They will also be handing out doggy treats to those passing by, she said.
