It's been said there is no rest for the weary, or for that matter, the 47 participants at the Idaho State Time Trial Championships.
The annual cycling event started at 7:30 a.m. Saturday on an out-and-back course on Highway 20 from the blinking light to Loving Creek for 20-kilometer course riders and to Susie Q Ranch for the 40km participants. Competitors were happy to see blue skies and warm temperatures, but were not so psyched about a headwind on the return leg.
Richard Feldman of Durance Cycleworks-Lehman Brothers just missed the course record he set last year by one second, winning in 49:51. Feldman's average speed was 30 miles per hour. Curtis Doman was runner-up in 54:54 and John Esposito rode to third in 56:13.
The women's 40km champion was Dayna Deuter in 1:04.34. Runner-up Kathy Morell was hot on her hind wheel, crossing the finish line in 1:05.49.
Another Durance Cycleworks-Lehman Brothers rider, Tom Campion, won the 20km race. He completed the course in 29:30.
Patty Puz recorded a personal best race time of 34:29 to take the women's crown.
Short course class champions were Campion, Mitchell Gammon, Puz, Colby Benz, Jackson Long, Willard Lindsay and Lois Lindsay.
Long course class winners were Feldman, Doman, Ted Burgess, Adam Catmull, Chip Keyes, Kris Thoreson, Nate Galpin, Chris Berry, Matt Morell, Keith Peters, Deuter, Kathy Morell, Nicole Brown and Kathleen Blank.
