Epic march to Soldier coming Saturday for bikers

For Knobby Tires, Peterson continues tear

Southern Idaho mountain bikers will head to Soldier Mountain north of Fairfield this coming weekend for the Knobby Tires Series event called the "Epic Soldier Mountain March."

Cross-country biking on Saturday, two days of barbecue and beer and $1,000 in prizes compliments of Scott USA for Sunday's downhill are some of the attractions for what will be a great weekend of racing and camping, organizers said.

Start time is 10 a.m. for Saturday's challenging cross-country adventure. Distances are 23.7 miles for Pros and Experts, 20 miles for Sport bikers and 12.5 miles for Beginners.

Racers will travel through pine forests and quaking aspens, climbing to 8,000 feet. There are long technical descents, creek crossings and lots of ripping' fast single track.

The barbecue is $8 per person and Big Sky Brewing will provide free summer honey keg of beer for the cross-country and downhill racers.

Excellent adventure for Cody

Hailey's Cody Peterson kept cooking along on the 2007 Wild Rockies Mountain Series tour with a Pro Men's victory in the 19th annual Idaho City Excellent Adventure on a 17-mile cross-country course June 9.

Scott USA rider Peterson conquered the course in 1.11:06 for a two-minute triumph over Brett Nichols of Boise (1.13:18). In third place was Fairfield's Dave Harrison of Dollarhide Cycles at 1.13:40.

The Pro Women's winner was Lynn Stott of Boise (1.23:41) by a four-second margin over Stacey Scanlan of Boise (1.23:45). Both ride for Tamarack Resort. Everybody rode the same 17-mile loop.
