Diversity lost on KWRV

KWRV is an important part of our community. It gets its support from us and (usually) offers a diversity of programming. Last week, without any prior announcement, the station stopped airing The Morning Show. While not everyone listens to this very eclectic 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. program, it is a necessary addition to the limited cultural choices in our valley. When the station was called asking why the show had been dropped, they said that Public Radio was primarily a venue for classical music. Public Radio listeners know that this is not the case as a great diversity of programs are usually presented.

While I also enjoy classical music, shouldn't we have the opportunity for some diversity. KWRV will now present 24 hours a day of classical. 4 hours or 16.5 percent of the day should still be available for a diversity of music lovers.

There is still an opportunity to get the program returned to the air. If enough people contact Manager Mike Olson at (320) 363-7702, or Jon Gossett, VP of programming, (651) 290-1450, they might reconsider this decision. Be sure to mention that KWRV is supported by our local dollars, and diverse programming is a reason for continued financial support.
