Fishing Report by Bill Mason

I can't say that fishing is red hot or is at its peak, but it has been productive if you are willing to work at it. Until we get more consistent bug hatches, it will probably remain this way for at least another week to ten days. Let's see what we have available.

SILVER CREEK—The Brown Drake was rather inconsistent this year, Now that it has gone through, most of the regular fishing will be concentrated throughout the daytime period. Right now, typical for mid June, hatches have been weak. The Midges that are on the water and creating feeing situations are a size #40 making for some tough conditions. Some Callibeatis have been seen as well as a very few PMD's so carrying a few Thorax Speckled Duns #16, Partridge Spinners #16, Parachute PMD's and Cut-Winged Parachute is always a good idea. Most fish have been taken subsurface using PMD Nymph #16, Regular and Flashback Pheasant Tails #16 and small Wooly Buggers #14. Although they are seen quite infrequently, Green Drakes #10-12 will take the occasional fish especially if the wind is blowing.

BIG WOOD RIVER—Still a bit high but fishing reasonably well. We have seen a few Green Drakes and have moved some small fish with imitations but we are still about a week away from seeing good quantities of this bug emerge. Because of good water conditions, it could be a dandy this year. Other than that, we have taken fish on the surface using Para Adams #14 but the best production has been fishing Regular and Bead Head Prince #10-12, Copper Johns #12-14, Green Drake Nymphs #12 and large Pheasant Tails #12.

BIG LOST—Still running high to fish comfortably. In fact, there is as much water coming into the reservoir as being let out which could mean that Copper Basin is still carrying some water. If you are going, break out the heavy stuff to get your flies down. Prince Nymphs #8 and Copper Johns #10 are always a good choice.

WARM SPRINGS—Has been fishing nicely using Para Adams, Yellow Stimulators and Prince Nymphs. Trail Creek has been off-color but should clear up by the weekend.

PENNY LAKE/LAKE CREEK—Neither has been fished very much and as a result, there are still quite a lot of fish held over from Memorial Day weekend. Bait is always effective but actually flies, both drys and nymph have been even better.
