Summertime activities

Mark Johnstone is a writer, photographer and arts consultant in Hailey. He relocated to the Wood River Valley in 2004 after spending 27 years in Los Angeles, where he was widely involved in the arts, teaching and working with artists, non-profits, businesses and city government. He was exhibitions curator and vice-president for Security Pacific Corporation from 1988-1992 and administrator of the Public Art Program for the city of Los Angeles from 1995-2001. He is a Hailey arts commissioner and member of the Downtown Design Team for Ketchum. These are Five Favorite Summertime Activities in the Wood River Valley.

1. Experiencing the ladybug migration in July on the top of Cobb Peak.

2. Eating fish tacos with a cold beer on a hot summer afternoon on the deck of Miramar Mexican restaurant in Hailey.

3, Buying fresh produce and Lost River sausages at the Farmers' Market and grilling it on the backyard deck with friends lounging around the yard.

4. Biking down Broadford Road for a great 50-minute pre-dinner ride.

5. Picnicking while listening to live music outdoors at the Back Alley Parties at the Wicked Spud, the Sun Valley Center concerts at Hop Porter Park and River Run in Ketchum, Ketch'em Alive and, certainly, the Sun Valley Symphony.
