Wolverine football camp for grades 8-12 gets underway next week at Wood River High School.

Registration and equipment checkout is set for 6 p.m. Sunday evening at the equipment room near the football stadium. The camp starts the following day.

Sessions will run from 9 a.m. until 12 noon starting Monday, June 4, and running through Friday, June 8. The cost is $75 per participant, but scholarships are available.

The annual summer camp is organized by Wood River High School head football coach Mike Glenn and his coaching staff to help student athletes appreciate the game of football.

"This camp affords current and new athletes the opportunity to come out and learn good football fundamentals and the overall schemes of Wood River football," Glenn wrote in a memo posted on the Wood River High School web site. "Also, if a young person is interested in exploring if football is for them, this the perfect time to find out."

Glenn described the event as a "slowed down teaching camp. It is highly supervised and is intended to teach and develop," he wrote. "Although it is full contact camp, it is contact only for the sake of teaching and development."
